Primrose Everdeen, mainly known as "Prim", is Katniss Everdeen's little sister. Originally, she was supposed to be the one sent into the arena during the 74th Annual Hunger Games if Katniss Everdeen had not volunteered to take her place. Like Mrs. Everdeen, Prim has taken an interest in healing and helped cure Gale Hawthorne's wounds when he was lashed by the new head Peacekeeper for District 12. Katniss had once considered teaching Prim how to hunt but gave up after she noticed that Prim started to cry whenever Katniss shot any animal while trying to teach her.
 The Hunger Games
In The Hunger Games Prim is only 12 years old. It is her first year participating in the reapings for the Hunger Games, and she only has one slip of paper in the glass ball. However, against all odds her name is pulled. Her sister Katniss volunteers in her place, and other Prim breaks out into hysterics, there is nothing she can do to stop her older sister from participating. She makes Katniss promise to try and win so she can come back to her family, and right before she leaves on the train, she does.
 Catching Fire
She is very good with people, and the illness and death does not seem to traumatize her the same way it does her sister. In fact, Prim is so good in healing practices that after a few months in District 13 she thinks they're going to train her to be a doctor. Katniss is not at all surprised when she hears this of her little sister. Primrose grows a lot during the third book, and she is often the one who is able to help Katniss through things and sheds light on situations. For example, it is her idea to try to cure the damage caused by Peeta's hijacking by doing the opposite. That is, to calm him down then replay clips the Capitol hasn't shown him so he can get things straight again.
Unfortunately, Prim dies in Mockingjay when she tries to help the wounded children outside President Snow's house. Half of the little parachutes dropped by a hovercraft had blown up, and when many of the rebels - including Prim - ran to help, the second wave blew up, injuring the helpers as well. Prim was killed in this horrible incident due to all the fire (Peeta and Katniss herself were horribly burned as a result). Katniss discovers near the end of the novel that rather than the hovercraft being sent by President Snow, as originally suspected to lure in and kill the rebels, it was in fact sent by President Alma Coin. As well, the bombs may or may not have been designed by Gale himself, as it was very similar to the traps he and Beetee were designing, based on playing on human sympathies. This incident was likely a contributing factor to the widening split between Gale and Katniss; the possibility of Gale's bomb killing her sister.
